Lesley Van Arsdall reports from CBS Philly.
In one corner of Athletes Academy, a sports-training facility in East Norriton, Domonic Brown was back in a batting cage Tuesday afternoon.
Yes, that Domonic Brown. His head and eyes flitted back and forth from Max Hitman — a senior at Archbishop Carroll, a St. Joseph’s University recruit, and Brown’s star pupil — to a computer screen above the cage, to a HitTrax program showing the data of Hitman’s every swing off a batting tee: his bat speed, the ball’s exit velocity, the distance it would have traveled.
One of Hitman’s cuts produced a piercing sound, like pipe on pipe, and what would have been a 194-foot line drive to left-center field. “Not bad,” Brown said.
In another corner of the facility, Domonic Brown Jr., age 2, kept shooting a little basketball through a little basketball hoop. He couldn’t miss. His dad was supposed to be like that, too.

West Norriton, PA., Athletes Academy Training Facility(AATF)/Athletes Academy Canes are proud to announce a merger with Miller Baseball (M24). Athletes Academy Canes will continue competing in youth tournaments in the 9U to 14U age groups, while the “M24 Canes” will serve as collegiate showcase team approach for ages 15U to 18U.
Athletes Academy Canes, based just 20 miles west of center city Philadelphia, have experienced tremendous growth and success early in their existence with their youth teams. A partnership with Miller Baseball is fitting given M24’s track record with the older players.
Co-founded in 2015 by former Cleveland Indians 1st round pick and current head baseball coach at La Salle University, David Miller, and William Penn Charter School head baseball coach, Justin Hanley, Miller Baseball (M24) focuses on player development and college recruitment for high school players in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
“We are thrilled to merge with Miller Baseball,” says Cherifa Howarth, Owner of Athletes Academy Training Facility. “David, Justin and their staff bring a wealth of baseball knowledge to our facility.”
“AATF brings more than just baseball to our organization,” says Justin Hanley, “the speed, strength and agility training they offer is nothing like I have seen at other baseball facilities. Everything is under one roof.”
Located in Montgomery County, AATF is a 9,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art training facility with full weight room, 33 yds. of turf, batting cages and pitching mounds. AATF is a youth sports training company that specializes in speed & agility, strength training, sprint mechanics and more. AATF’s certified trainers have over ten years of experience and provide high quality/high results fitness training for athletes in any respective sport. They use proven training methods and create innovative workouts to fit the needs of each individual athlete.
Athletes Academy own, St. Joe’s Prep Star Hurdler, Miles Green made his much anticipated decision on where he will attend college come next fall. Green has chosen to take his talents to Virginia Tech!
“The campus is beautiful, the training facilities are great, and I got along real well with the squad and coaches,” the 6-foot-3, 175-pound senior said after committing to the Hokies on Wednesday afternoon. “I pretty much knew then that it was the right school for me.”
Green excels in the 400-meter hurdles, 400 dash, and 4×400 relay. With a clocking of 48.67 seconds, he placed third in the 400 at the PIAA Class 3A championships at Shippensburg last May.
Green chose Virginia Tech over Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina, and Illinois, among others. His other official visit was to Michigan.
The 18-year-old from Roxborough placed second in the 400 hurdles in 53.43 at the New York Relays in April.
Green, who plans to major in political science, placed sixth with a personal-best mark of 52.87 in the 400 hurdles at the prestigious New Balance Nationals Outdoor at North Carolina A&T in June.
Hard work really does pay off and we couldn’t be prouder. Best of luck Miles. Go Hokies!
